6 Tips for the Best Baby Milk Bath Pictures
- 1. Use available natural light – this might mean walking around the house and finding light. You might be surprised on where that might be! I have photographed milk bath sessions on a kitchen floor, a dining room, nursery, and even outside!
- 2. Whole Milk does the trick - Depending on the size of the tub you are using. I usually use a ½ gallon of milk mixed with hot water in the tub posted here. I have seen people debate using powdered milk and personally I do not see the reason to make a mess with powdered milk - plus, most probably have some milk in their fridge to use right now. *Always test the water before baby goes in! If you are a photographer – always have a parent double check before you put the baby in the water. Also, keep someone nearby the baby in case they slip. You should never leave any child in the milk bath set up alone, not even for a moment. Above all, safety is always first!
- 3. Any tub or bucket large enough for baby to comfortably and safely sit in, will work for a milk bath photo. You may have something in your house right now that could work wonderfully as the “tub” for your baby’s milk bath. You can even use your own kitchen or bathroom sink if it is large enough!
- 4. Add in fruit, flowers, or baby bath toys for pops color - You can even theme this to the season or your bathroom decor, so you can use it as really personalized and the most adorable bathroom wall art. *I suggest using real fruit because we can all agree that these food props are going in the baby’s mouth. So, wash up the fruit and veggies first and let baby enjoy their milk bath!
- 5. Make sure you take these 4 pictures: 1. Overhead – “Bird’s Eye View” 2. Front/Straight on (Pro Tip: get low so you are on the same level as baby). 3. Close up (Pro Tip: Use your zoom! This helps with distortion). 4. Toes – Close up of Toes in the milk bath – gah! Baby feet are just so cute!
- 6.Make sure you photograph different eye directions. This will help diversify your images and make for better storytelling through your baby milk bath session by capturing a variety of expressions and a variety of eye directions. BONUS TIP! INVITE THE WHOLE FAMILY! Your four-legged first-born counts too!
Lastly, and almost most importantly:
PRINT THEM!
