Hi there!
Today, I am going to give you some details around my in-home newborn photography sessions. I hope you choose me to capture the BEST MOMENTS of your life! I absolutely love everything about newborn babies and seeing parents interact with their newest addition. I literally might tear up (and try to hide it) at your session because I literally love seeing all the LOVE! Plus, having a baby myself, really has made me a more emotional person: I am sure you can relate!
So, not every session is the same, actually, no session is exactly the same. I go into each setting ready to customize your newborn photography session to you, your home, and your baby. That being said, I am going to just summarize how most in-home newborn sessions go after we have already went through scheduling the appointment and ironed out all the details.
Here is an explanation of "newborn session day".
If we are doing a posed newborn session, then I will bring with me all the necessary props for safe baby posing, wraps, backdrops for baby, little adorable newborn photography outfits, hats, headbands, and more. I will bring lighting if we know we won't have enough natural light. If we are focusing on more of a lifestyle newborn session, depending on your wants, I could come with just a camera, to just a few props as well. I will totally help you if you are unsure in deciding what works best for your family! I usually do a hybrid session of them both, which gives you the best of both sessions.
When I arrive, I'll start bringing everything in, wash my hands, and have you give me a quick tour of any spaces you would allow me to use for the session. Sometimes spots you might not think will work, will be perfect! I can create a beautiful image out of just about any space. Small spaces can work out really great when you would have never thought it would. I have the equipment and creative imagination to make that rock! I see beauty in the everyday normal and when I light it right, bam! Gorgeous images are the result.
After we decide on a few options for spaces, if baby has recently fallen asleep or is starting to, I will start with the newborn first. I will alternate between wrapping the baby and carefully dressing baby in those cute little newborn photography outfits. So very cute for pictures, but not practical for normal day use. I buy these outfits specifically from designers making them for newborn photography, so they will fit baby snug to show off their little body! I suggest we use my provided outfits over everyday outfits for that reason and so the outfits do not end up in baby's face for their newborn photos.
If baby needs to eat during their photography session, baby eats! I do ask that you try to plan baby's feedings so that your newborn eats about 20-30 minutes before the session if using formula and about 10-15 minutes before the session if nursing/bottle feeding breastmilk. That way, we can get the most out of the time between feeding sessions. Sometimes though, baby will need to snack or even have a full feed during the session, but our goal is to get through the session and end right before the next feeding time!
After the posing part of the newborn session, we start and end with the family lifestyle images. I bring a neutral wrap for babies for these images, unless you request something different. Sometimes baby is really comfortable in just a diaper and that works too! Once I have captured what I need to complete your gallery, I usually push the time a little further if baby is still calm, but usually, by the end of 2.5 hours (which seems to go quite fast actually), your sweet baby is awake and ready to be fed! And that's my cue to start packing up and let you have your home back to yourselves.
I leave and you get to just RELAX! Your newborn is probably exhausted from being a fantastic baby model and you're ready to take a nap with them! Your images are prepped and edited in the next couple weeks and you will be sent access to your viewing gallery about two weeks after your session to view all the gorgeous images. I promise you, you will love them! And you'll be amazed by how much your baby grew in just those couple weeks!
Enjoy every single moment that you have with your newborn. I know it's hard some days. It's new, it's exhausting, it's super hard during this pandemic without having help with it all from friends and family. I understand what you're going through. That is exactly why I offer in-home newborn photography sessions. You deserve to have your newborns first moments with you, in your home, captured in a beautiful and meaningful way.
