Top 3 Traditional Gender Reveals:
1. Cut the Cake - with blue or pink revealed inside after you cut and then eat!
2. Balloon Escape - box/chest filled with blue or pink balloons that fly out when you open it for the big reveal!
3. Balloon Pop with Confetti (although - use caution and look for biodegradable confetti, because, you know, the environment).
Top 3 New Trends for Gender Reveals:
1. Incorporate the sports you love! They have just about every sport covered with a sports themed powder/confetti filled prop. If you search "biodegradable gender reveal [your sport]" you see some great options! In my quick search, I just saw they now have baseball, basketball, CrossFit, tennis, and football just in the first set of options.
2. Colored Smoke - You can use this for just about anything, you can place it in the background of a photoshoot or, I have seen it used in the exhaust of a car for those who really love their cars!
3. Egg Game - This had me literally laughing out loud. How fun would this be for an intimate get together, or a pandemic friendly version via Facetime or recorded video. Definitely, a must record!

Want to capture this fun moment in a thoughtfully planned and beautifully photographed way?
Gender Reveal Sessions:
A fun way to professionally plan and photograph your baby’s gender reveal.
During these sessions the main goal is to capture a few different images for you to share with friends and family to reveal your baby’s gender and to have some keep forever for your child’s baby album.
There are two options for gender reveal sessions:
First Option:
The parents (that’s you!) prefer to wait until their gender reveal photography session to actually find out the sex of their child. The goal here is to capture the element of genuine surprise in all of your photos. These portraits convey and capture that raw emotion you will feel after finding out the gender of your baby!
If you choose to move forward with the first option, these would be the steps:
- Ask physician to seal an envelope with the sex of your child written on a piece of paper inside.
- Don’t open the envelope!
- Give/Mail envelope to photographer or give the letter to a close (and secret-keeping) friend to relay the information to your photographer.
Second Option:
The parents (again, you, how exciting!?) prefer to know what the gender of their child is for themselves as soon as they receive the information. Totally understandable! [Personally, I thought I could wait, but once it was in my email, it lingered in my mind, until I finally took a look. I was on a work trip, in Minnesota, 23ish weeks pregnant, on the elliptical machine in the gym at the hotel, about 12 minutes into my boring workout, I decided to just look, even without my husband… no regrets. Haha, but this memory could be a whole lot more fun if I had thought to wait and do something fun with the hubby]. Anyway, back to your gender reveal! If you choose the second route, you will just know the sex of your baby before the session itself. It is still really fun and emotional to photograph.
Whatever you choose, know that this session is going to be a blast! Plus, it requires very little energy spent on your part to put it all together, your photographer will take care of just about everything in terms of planning. We will walk through the different options together and find a way to celebrate your story and reveal your baby’s gender to the world in a really special-to-you way.
